Heeft iemand al eens vruchten aan Yucca baccata gehad? Wat is jullie ervaring moet hoe makkelijk de plant is? Ik laat 5 planten uit Engeland overkomen. Ik hoop dat ik er ooit vruchten aan krijg. Er schijnen rond de vijf ondersoorten te zijn en het is mij niet duidelijk of ze allemaal vruchten vormen. Het verschil tussen de ondersoorten is wel groot. Helaas biedt ook niemand gegarandeerde vruchtvormende Yucca baccata aan. Yucca baccata 'baccata' vormt zeker vruchten.

 

Spanish bayonet. An evergreen shrub with sword-like tough leaves and impressive flower spikes from the Southern USA, growing to 1 m (3 ft) high or more. The tough leaves can be used for basketry and to make a fibre, also split and used as twine. The roots are a source of a soap substitute, and edible parts include the flowers, flower stalks and fruits, Likes a very well drained soil and sun; hardy to -15°C or so. The baked fruit of Banana Yucca tastes somewhat like sweet potato. Yucca flowers are still eaten by Mexican Indians to such an extent that some species now rarely show mature pods.

Roots: Spreads by rhizomes. The indehiscent fleshy fruit is sweet, 8–18 cm long and 6 cm across, and cylindrical. The Paiutes dried the fruits for use during the winter.

Ik heb ze voor rond de 8 euro per stuk gekocht. Anders vind ik het een duur experiment. Het is volgens mij wel een mooie oude plant, die misschien al ieder jaar bloeit.

Ik hoop het voor jou dat ze gaan bloeien, sommige soorten bloeien niet of geven geen vruchten in ons klimaat.

Heb zelf meerdere soorten { deze zijn af en toe te krijgen}

Zorg voor een goed afwaterende plek met het liefst de hele dag zon.

Hoelang duurt het meestal voordat ze gaan bloeien? Ze zijn gelukkig niet heel duur en als ze niks opleveren dan gebruik ik ze wel voor iets anders, maar ik hoop dat ik geluk heb.
